Sky Sports pundit believes Barcelona would sacrifice one third of ‘MSN’ to ease financial struggles

Terry Gibson has revealed his belief that Barcelona would opt to sell Neymar if they were forced into a position of having to sell a big name to raise money.

The Catalan giants recently unveiled their plans to upgrade the Nou Camp, which in turn has raised question marks over their ability to keep their star attacking trident.

Gibson was speaking on the La Liga Weekly Podcast, and revealed that of the trio, it would likely be Neymar that was sacrificed rather than either Lionel Messi or Luis Suarez.

“If you asked me two months ago if Neymar would stay at Barcelona, I would have said there was no chance he would leave,” Gibson said. “I’m beginning to wonder now whether there is a possibility if a club came in.

“We’ve heard the stories about the stadium and the impact this may have on the finances at Barcelona. If Barca had to sell one of Messi, Neymar or Suarez then I think it would be Neymar.”

The Sky Sports pundit went on to discuss that the Brazilian’s dip in form coupled with the parallels between his time in Spain and that of Robinho at Real Madrid make him the realistic choice of the three, but it remains to be seen if it becomes a reality.

Neymar has scored 30 goals and provided 26 assists in 47 appearances in all competitions so far this season, with Barca hoping to secure a domestic double in the next fortnight.

For a club that is often reported as being under financial pressure, the investment needed to upgrade the stadium will naturally come at a cost and could affect other aspects of their success.

Whether or not they are forced into a situation where they have to sell one of the prized assets remains to be seen, and given Messi’s standing at the club coupled with Suarez scoring a staggering 56 goals in 51 appearances this season, then perhaps Gibson’s suggestion makes sense.

Neymar is still just 24 years of age, and given his ability and room for development, he would certainly be a welcome addition to any major club around Europe and they will likely be monitoring his situation in the coming months.
