Liverpool line up €10m-rated Simon Mignolet replacement from Germany

It has become somewhat easy for Liverpool fans to point out goalkeeper Simon Mignolet as one of the weak links on the starting squad. The Belgian goalkeeper has struggled at key points this season despite keeping 11 clean sheets for the team. As a result, Jurgen Klopp wants to bring in his own man to challenge or potentially replace the incumbent Mignolet next year.

According to the Metro via Bild, Klopp has set his sights on Mainz 05 goalkeeper Loris Karius as a summer transfer. Per the source, Karius has a release clause in his contract of €10 million.

Karius is believed to want European football next season though as Mainz already secured a spot in the Europa League. As of writing, the only way Liverpool can do that is to either beat Sevilla in the Europa League Final to secure a Champions League berth, or to beat West Bromwich Albion on Sunday while claiming more points than West Ham United and Southampton.

The 22-year-old Karius recorded ten clean sheets for Mainz this year and earned Man of the Match honours for his performance in a 1-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Much like Germany’s star goalkeepers Manuel Neuer, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Bernd Leno, Karius has been featured heavily for the nation’s vaunted Under-21 side.
