Chelsea midfielder reveals how EPL flops will react to Leicester guard of honour

Nemanja Matic has insisted that the guard of honour Chelsea will form for Leicester City on Sunday could have a transformative effect on the Blues.

A year ago, under the guidance of Jose Mourinho, the Pensioners romped to the Premier League title.

However, they have endured a miserable season this term, with the Portuguese coach parting ways with the West Londoners in December.

As Chelsea have struggled—and ultimately failed—to qualify even for the Europa League, Leicester have taken their spot at the pinnacle of the English game.

The Foxes clinched the title as Chelsea drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge, and were presented with the Premier League title after their convincing victory over Everton last Sunday.

In the final match of the season on Sunday, Chelsea will form a guard of honour for Claudio Ranieri’s side to honour their unbelievable title success, but Matic has revealed how the tribute will serve as a motivating factor for the Pensioners.

“I am happy for Leicester,” Matic told the media on Saturday, as per the Daily Mail. “They deserve to be champions. I know how they feel because last year it was us!’ said the Serbian.

“Of course, our tribute will make us more motivated to win the title again,” he continued. “We will do our best to do it. We didn’t win this year but I am sure next season is going to be better.

“Chelsea are used to always being in the top four, so I am sure will do well.”

Like so many of his teammates, Matic his endured a miserable season this term, and has fallen short of his usual high standards over his 32 league outings.
