Man United transfer news: Club scouting £67m-rated duo as potential targets

The Red Devils’ season may not end in a Champions League berth, but that won’t stop them from relentlessly pursuing top stars from joining their ranks and returning to the top of the table in the 2016-17 season.

According to The Sun, Schalke 04 winger Leroy Sane and Sporting CP midfielder Joao Mario were both scouted by Man United over the weekend as their respective clubs played their final league matches of the year.

Sane had a breakout season this year with eight goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances and has been given a £40 million rating by Schalke. The 20-year-old winger earned his first cap for Germany in 2015.

Mario was the subject of a reported £27 million bid from PSG, but the Portugal giants turned them down. He finished the season with ten assists – tied for fifth – and earned Young Player of the Month honours twice.

Man United struggled to consistency from the midfield this season as summer pickups Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin failed to live up to the money the club spent on them.
