After it was confirmed on Wednesday that John Terry had signed a new one-year contract with Chelsea, it naturally sparked a joyous reaction from fans.
The 35-year-old appeared set for an emotional farewell this summer, with little in the way of progress being made over a new deal.
However, in recent weeks it became clear that negotiations had been taking place and an offer was finally made, one that Terry has now accepted.
With his leadership skills and experience likely to form an important part of Antonio Conte’s hopes for success at Stamford Bridge next season, it is ultimately a highly popular decision from a fans perspective given that the club legend has spent over two decades at Stamford Bridge.
Terry will now hope to play an important role for the team next year, as he continues his playing career where he ultimately always wanted to be.
