Manchester United set for remarkable coaching compromise, as club plot van Gaal-Mourinho double act

Manchester United are understood to be considering offering Louis van Gaal a different job at Old Trafford in order to clear the way for Jose Mourinho.

According to The Sun, the Red Devils are willing to prepare to let the Dutch coach see out the final year of his three-year contract, but remain keen to install Mourinho as head coach, with executive vice chairman Ed Woodward giving in to the fact that something needs to change following a disappointing season.

While van Gaal initially impressed at Old Trafford, taking the club back to the Champions League after David Moyes’ troubled tenure, the giants have struggled to kick on this season.

The Red Devils were dumped out of the UCL in the group stage, and have failed to secure a return to next year’s competition, ending their Premier League campaign in fifth place.

The Portuguese coach left his post at Stamford Bridge in December, and while he could be the man to revive the Red Devils, it remains to be seen how Mourinho could work in tandem with LVG.
