Derby County are understood to be considering a move for recently axed Everton coach Roberto Martinez at the season’s end.

The Rams currently have a coach in place in interim boss Darren Wassell, but with the temporary manager having failed to take the East Midlands outfit to the playoff final, it remains to be seen whether he will be trusted with the job on a permanent basis.

According to the Mirror, the club are already drawing up a four-man shortlist, with Martinez—who was recently let got by the Toffees—understood to be under consideration.

The Spanish coach faces competition for the role from former Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson, while Gary Rowett of Birmingham City is also an option.

Whoever gets the job will have to work with chief executive Sam Rush, owner Mel Morris and football advisor Harry Redknapp, who sparred with Martinez during his time as Tottenham Hotspur head coach.
