According to The Sun, the Reds are looking to tie up their summer transfer business as soon as possible as Jurgen Klopp reconfigures the Merseysiders’ squad.
The tabloid note that a deal to bring the Germany international and World Cup winner to Anfield could be completed in the coming days, a move which would represent a major statement of intent for the defeated Europa League finalists.
Klopp worked with 23-year-old Gotze during some of his formative years at Borussia Dortmund, helping to attune the forward’s talents before his high-profile switch to Bayern.
While Gotze looks set to be on the plane for the European Championships this summer, he is coming off the back of a disappointing season under Pep Guardiola at the Allianz Arena.
He has managed just 11 Bundesliga starts—and a further three substitute appearances—during a season that has been undermined by fitness concerns, and a switch to Anfield may represent a chance for the young talent to revive his flagging career.
