Video: The moment Manchester United broke FA Cup trophy

Posted by

Manchester United lifted the FA Cup yesterday for the first time since 2004 as Jesse Lingard scored an extra-time winner to secure a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace.

Having waited 12 years to get their hands on the famous trophy, United’s players then appeared to break it immediately during their long-awaited celebrations at Wembley!

Take a look at this video of Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick raising the trophy above their heads. The lid comes completely free and comes crashing down from the Royal Box!

The FA Cup lid then appeared to go missing as United’s celebrations continued. It was nowhere to be seen during manager Louis van Gaal’s post-match press conference.

One theory is that it is being used to put a lid on rumours that former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is set to replace Van Gaal as United manager, as BBC Sport reports.
