Video: Frank Lampard booed by NYC supporters as Chelsea legend replaces Andrea Pirlo in 7-0 loss

It was a day that may live in infamy for NYC FC for years to come as the Yankee Stadium outfit were utterly embarrassed by arch-rival New York Red Bulls in a 7-0 defeat. The game got so out of hand that NYC FC supporters even started booing Chelsea legend Frank Lampard when he was subbed in during the game’s waning minutes.

Down 5-0 at the 75′ mark, Lampard was brought in to replace Italian legend Andrea Pirlo. But despite making his first appearance for the club this season, the best scoring midfielder in Premier League history was hit with a rain of boos from an angry Yankee Stadium crowd.

Their boos may not have been justified had Lampard assisted in stopping the bleeding, but NYC would allow two more goals in the final 10 minutes to seal a 7-0 defeat, the worst loss in the short history of the club – and at home no less.

Lampard has widely been considered a disappointment in MLS as a designated player since joining the club last summer.
