Barcelona and Manchester United going head to head in transfer tussle for elite South American defender

Posted by

According to reports in France, Manchester United and Barcelona are set for a summer transfer battle to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos.

The Brazil international has long been considered one of the most promising centre-backs in the world game, but he’s struggled to establish himself in the PSG first team.

With the French giants preferring to use Thiago Silva and David Luiz in the heart of the backline, Marquinhos has been limited to substitute appearances or cameos at right-back.

He’s made no secret of his desire to move on, and is set to have no shortage of suitors.

According to Telefoot [as per The Sun], United are keen on bringing the defender to the club as part of the impending ‘new era’ under Jose Mourinho.

However, the defender himself prefers a move to Barcelona—another club with a long tradition of Brazilian stars—and the Red Devils may well have a battle on their hands if they hope to bring the 22-year-old to Old Trafford.
