Twitter: Delighted Manchester United fans share joy over expected Louis van Gaal exit

Manchester United are set to sack Louis van Gaal on Monday, and the news was widely welcomed by supporters after a frustrating two years with the Dutchman at the helm.

Despite signing off the season with the FA Cup on Saturday, it isn’t expected to be enough for Van Gaal to save his job after overseeing plenty of disappointment in the Premier League and in Europe this season.

United failed to finish in the top four which means that they’ll be absent from the Champions League next season, while their failures in both European competitions this year added to the frustration and anger at the club.

Coupled with his style of play that was often criticised for being boring by supporters, pundits and former players alike, it was ultimately a matter when not if Van Gaal was sacked this summer.

With reports that they have parted company with the Dutchman with an official announcement soon to follow, United are now expected to appoint Jose Mourinho as his successor with the former Chelsea boss reportedly set to hold talks with the club this week.
