The richest game in football was won by a goal of the highest class on Saturday.

This Mohamed Diame stunner, which came 18 minutes from full time at Wembley, secured a 1-0 victory for Hull City against Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship play-off final.

In the build-up to the big game, Sky Sports and financial analysts Deloitte estimated that success for Wednesday would’ve been worth £170m, while the value of a victory for Hull is apparently £110m – £60m less because of the parachute payments the Tigers will have to forgo.

But parachute payments will be the last thing on Hull minds tonight.

The side from Humberside – who took significantly fewer fans than their Yorkshire rivals to London – will be too busy celebrating their instant return to the Premier League, following their relegation in 2015.

Hull’s victory over Wednesday followed the form book. The Tigers had finished two places and nine points above their opponents in the regular season.
