Arsenal set to lose one-time wonderkid who looks unlikely to realise his potential

Calum Chambers‘ miserable stay at Arsenal could soon be set to come to a temporary end, with Southampton understood to be keen on the defender.

According to the Mirror, Saints are looking to bolster their squad ahead of next year’s Europa League campaign, with coach Ronald Koeman keen to refresh his defensive options.

As such, the south-coast clubs are understood to have sent scouts to the recently concluded Toulon Tournament in France, as they look to cast an eye over Chambers’ progress.

Koeman will likely receive some positive feedback, with the 21-year-old having impressed as the Three Lions saw off hosts France 2-0 in the final to claim the prestigious tournament.

However, while a loan move to bring Chambers back to St. Mary’s may be fairly low risk for Southampton, it remains to be seen whether they will be able to revive the youngster’s flagging career.

The former wonderkid has struggled to establish himself at the Emirates Stadium, making just 12 league appearances last season, of which only two were starts.

It remains to be seen whether Chambers can still realise the potential he had when he left Southampton for London in 2014.
