Manchester United & Chelsea set for major transfer disappointment as Barcelona move to snare international

Manchester United and Chelsea’s hopes of signing Paris Saint-Germain’s Marquinhos have been dented by news that Barcelona are on the brink of bagging the defender.

According to reports in Spain, the 22-year-old held talks with the Catalan giants in Milan on the weekend of the Champions League final, and has agreed a long-term deal to move to the Nou Camp this summer.

Marquinhos was signed by PSG as a long-term successor for Thiago Silva, but apparently sick of waiting for his time to steal the limelight, the defender appears set to move on and has reportedly put pen to paper on a five-year deal.

While Barca will be delighted to secure the future of one of the finest young defenders in the world game, United and Chelsea look set to move elsewhere.

Intriguingly, Sport report that while United have had long-standing interest, new coach Jose Mourinho is also interested by the Brazil international.
