Liverpool boss out to beat rivals to £30m signing of Premier League star

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly ready to splash out £30m on Southampton ace Sadio Mane this summer.

The Saints could be set for a rocky few months after Ronaldo Koeman agreed a move to Everton, with several of their top stars potentially following the Dutchman out of the exit door.

According to The Sun, Klopp is ready to target Mane and make him his main summer signing with suggestions that he’s close to agreeing a fee.

It is claimed that the Reds are ready to pay £25m plus extras to prise the Senegalese star away from Southampton, and that they are now ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign him.

Their Premier League rivals were believed to be keen on the 24-year-old earlier this year, but with their switch in manager, it’s unlikely that Jose Mourinho will continue down that path as he targets his own players that will fit his ideas.

Mane scored 15 goals in all competitions last season, and in turn he would certainly add a new dynamic to the Liverpool attack as well as create more competition for places.

Klopp has been busy in the transfer market already with three new signings in Joel Matip, Marko Grujic and Loris Karius, and given his plans to ensure Liverpool compete at the top of the Premier League table next season, he will undoubtedly have plans to strengthen further.

That seemingly starts with Mane who will hope to get his big move this summer, as if he does make the switch to Anfield, he’ll be following a number of former Saints stars to the club with the likes of Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne joining the Reds in recent years.

As for Southampton, the club will have to continue to show an impressive ability to rebuild and start again with a new coach this summer, but it’s certainly a disappointment to see them in a difficult spot.
