(Video) Euro 2016: Fabian Schar gives Switzerland lead against Albania

Posted by

Switzerland lead Albania 1-0 at half-time in their Group A opener in Lens with Fabian Schar breaking the deadlock after just five minutes.

Question marks will be raised over Etrit Berisha’s rash decision to come and collect Xherdan Shaqiri’s corner, as ultimately the Albanian shot-stopper got nowhere near the delivery to allow Schar to get their first and head home the opening goal.

Switzerland created the better opportunities throughout the opening 45 minutes and should arguably have opened up a bigger lead before the break, but Albania did settle and grew into the game to threaten themselves at times.

However, their hopes of getting back into the encounter took a blow before the interval as Lorik Cana was given his marching orders to reduce his side to 10 men for the rest of the game.

With France defeating Romania on Friday night, Switzerland will be desperate to repeat the trick in order to put themselves in a strong position moving forward in their bid to advance to the knockout stages.
