Arsenal on high alert as Bundesliga outfit confirm target’s exit this summer

Arsenal are set to be alerted by the news that Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez will leave the club this summer, as confirmed by sporting director Klaus Allofs.

The Swiss international is currently on duty with the national side at Euro 2016, and will be hoping to play his part in helping them advance from Group A in the next week or so.

Having established himself as a regular fixture of the Wolfsburg side, making 36 appearances in all competitions last season with three goals and four assists from his left-back position, Rodriguez will now hope to make the next step up in his career.

“Rici has stated that his future is not with us,” Allofs confirmed, as reported by Blick. “But we can live with this decision.”

It remains to be seen where he ends up later this summer though, as noted in the report, a reunion with international teammate Granit Xhaka at the Emirates is an option.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder secured his move to Arsenal last month, and is expected to be followed by more new arrivals this summer with the Gunners looking to finally make a statement and make moves to end their wait for a Premier League title.

However, Arsene Wenger could face competition from the likes of Real Madrid and Roma, who are both said to be keen on acquiring Rodriguez given his impressive performances for club and country in recent times.

The left-back is believed to have a buyout clause in his contract worth £19m, and so if Arsenal do harbour hopes of adding him to their squad, they will have to dip into their pockets again to strengthen in that area of the pitch.
