Jose Mourinho wins huge transfer battle in keeping Manchester United star

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly won the fight to keep David de Gea at the club, as the Spaniard has informed them that he wants to stay at Old Trafford.

De Gea was involved in a protracted transfer saga last summer that linked him with a move to Real Madrid, although the deal eventually fell through ahead of the deadline.

Having since re-established himself as the number one choice between the posts at United and as the top shot-stopper in the Premier League, Mourinho would have been desperate to avoid another summer where the Spanish international was linked with a return to his homeland.

It appears as though he’s got his wish as according to AS, De Gea is excited about the new project under the former Chelsea boss and after talks between the pair, he has decided that he wishes to remain in Manchester.

Real have until the end of Wednesday to exercise a deal in which they could try and sign De Gea for €50m, but it doesn’t appear as though they will be successful and in turn Keylor Navas will be in line to continue as first choice next season.

The Costa Rican international impressed last season and arguably did enough to convince the La Liga giants that perhaps they didn’t even need to invest heavily in a new goalkeeper this summer, as he played his part in helping them to a second-placed league finish along with another triumph in the Champions League.

However, it appears as though that decision has been taken out of their hands anyway as De Gea will continue with United, and will undoubtedly now form an integral part of Mourinho’s success as of next season, with the Portuguese tactician tasked with getting United immediately competing for silverware.

The ‘Special One’ has already brought in defensive reinforcements in the form of Eric Bailly from Villarreal, and it’s widely expected that he’s far from done in the summer transfer market.
