Diego Maradona declares Mauro Icardi is ‘dead to me’ after Maxi Lopez controversy

Diego Maradona has never been an individual to mince his words, and he has a pretty straight-forward opinion on Mauro Icardi.

The Inter striker was involved in an ugly controversy a couple of years ago, as he began a relationship with the ex-wife of his former teammate Maxi Lopez.

While the pair have since married, various spats took place both on social media and when the two players crossed paths on the pitch and it’s very clear which side Maradona is on.

“Icardi doesn’t exist to me,” Maradona said on Radio Metro in relation to a question about Icardi going to the Olympics.

“He could be captain of the cosmos, after what happened I’m a fan of Maxi Lopez. That’s not done, brother.

“You feed him, you let him in your house and then this happens? No. Those who don’t have moral codes are dead to me.”

It probably won’t bother Icardi too much given that he’s evidently happy with his life, but there will certainly be many who agree with Maradona’s assessment of the situation. Here is that moment when Lopez refused to shake his former friend’s hand…
