Juventus striker in talks with Chelsea but hits stumbling block

Juventus star Alvaro Morata is reportedly in talks with Chelsea, although there is a disagreement over the salary that he will be offered.

The Spaniard is expected to see the buy-back clause in his contract exercised by Real Madrid this summer, although the La Liga giants intend on selling him on for a profit.

In turn, that has sparked plenty of interest, particularly from the Premier League, with Antonio Conte and Chelsea emerging as a possible option.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the west London outfit appear to be the ‘most likely destination’, with the club offering €60m for the Spanish international.

While talks are said to have taken place between the two parties over personal terms, there is a standstill as while Chelsea have offered a deal worth €6m per year, Morata is seeking something closer to €7.5m.

Therefore, it remains to be seen whether or not Chelsea are willing to up their offer and meet his demands, or if the two sides can reach a compromise somewhere in the middle.

Nevertheless, what is clear is that it’s highly unlikely that Juve will be in contention as many will doubt their ability to compete with the figures involved.

That puts Chelsea in a strong position moving forward, with the 23-year-old likely to make his decision on his future after Euro 2016.

Having insisted previously that he doesn’t expect to remain in the Spanish capital given the competition for places at the Bernabeu, Morata will need assurances that he forms an integral part of Conte’s plans from next season onwards if he is to seal a move to Stamford Bridge.
