Liverpool wonderkid set to rejoin club in pre-season after 8-month injury layoff

One of Liverpool’s brightest young stars, defender Joe Gomez, appears on the verge of making a comeback after an injury-shortened debut season with the club.

According to the Daily Star via the Liverpool Echo, Gomez is on pace to return to Liverpool in time for the summer pre-season after missing the last eight months of football due to a ligament injury.

Gomez made seven starts for Liverpool in the 2015-16 season – five in the Premier League and two in the Europa League. He even made an assist in his debut, a 1-0 win over Stoke City in September.

However, he suffered a serious ACL injury while representing England’s Under-21 side in October and has been recovering ever since.

Gomez was acquired for £3.5 million in a move from Charlton Athletic.
