Tottenham transfer news: Fee agreed for midfield destroyer; medical to take place today

Victor Wanyama will reportedly undergo a medical at Tottenham Hotspur today after a fee was agreed with Southampton for him to reunite with Mauricio Pochettino.

According to Sky Sports, the two clubs have settled on a sum of between £11m and £12m for the midfield destroyer, who was brought to Southampton by Pochettino in 2013.

Sky Sports understands that the 24-year-old powerhouse flew in from his native Kenya on Sunday to finalise terms ahead of signing a four-year deal at White Hart Lane.

Although Wanyama only had one year left on his contract at St Mary’s Stadium, his imminent departure continues Southampton’s recent trend of selling their best players.

And it is another blow to the Saints after manager Ronald Koeman left to join Everton, having led them to a Premier League-best finish of sixth in the 2015-16 campaign.

Wanyama made 97 appearances for Southampton after joining from Celtic in 2013, and will add to Tottenham’s midfield depth upon their return to the Champions League.

Last season’s first-choice partnership of Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele could be difficult to dislodge, but Wanyama at least provides Spurs with more depth in the centre of the park.
