Manchester City look to tie up £40m signing of Leroy Sane in next 24 hours

Manchester City are reportedly on the verge of securing a deal to sign Schalke starlet Leroy Sane as Pep Guardiola continues his Etihad revolution.

The 20-year-old has been one of the most sought-after youngsters in Europe after impressing in the Bundesliga, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists in 42 appearances last season.

City appear to be close to tying up a deal, but they are facing stiff late competition from Bayern Munich, who have their own agenda which features Sane joining them ahead of next season, as reported by The Sun.

The Bavarian giants have asked their domestic rivals to keep Sane for another year, and with Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery seeing their respective contracts expire at the end of this coming season, Bayern will then make their move to bring Sane in.

It is claimed that they are offering similar money and other incentives to try and persuade Schalke to ignore Guardiola’s advances and do business with them, but it remains to be seen whether it’s enough to convince them to reject City’s proposal.

Having already brought in Ilkay Gundogan, the Spanish tactician has clearly identified players that he saw at close quarters during his time in Germany.

Aside from the fact that the City squad needs reinforcements anyway, the former Barcelona boss continues to identify players that he believes will fit into his system and style of play and he will undoubtedly hope that he finds the right balance to enjoy a successful first year at the helm.

Nevertheless, he faces a more immediate scare with regards to Sane, as Bayern continue their own impressive transfer market after signing the likes of Mats Hummels and Renato Sanches already this summer.
