Could Gareth Bale be poised for one of the biggest paydays in the history of sports?

With each passing month Real Madrid find themselves more and more enamored with star striker Gareth Bale and desperate to make him the centerpiece of their team the way Cristiano Ronaldo has been over the last decade.

To that end, the Champions League winners are on the verge of making Bale a permanent fixture on the team – literally.

According to the Daily Mail, Real Madrid are working on a new deal with Bale that will make him one of the highest paid athletes in professional sports.

Per the source, the deal will have a length of seven years – which would run well into the twilight of the 26-year-old Welshman’s career.

Bale was a key piece in Real Madrid’s Champions League puzzle this year as well as their late-season La Liga rally to take second place in the league.

He recorded the assist to Sergio Ramos’ goal against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Final and made a successful penalty kick in the shootout. For his efforts, Bale was named Man of the Match.
