Man United transfer roundup: Mkhitaryan to sign next month, Pogba a priority, two defenders could leave

Jose Mourinho has already made his first signing as Manchester United manager, but who will follow Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly through the door at Old Trafford?

Here, CaughtOffside rounds up today’s biggest Red Devils-related transfer rumours, which include the potential for two defenders to leave the Manchester giants this summer.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

The Borussia Dortmund playmaker appears to be at the top of Mourinho’s wish-list, and German newspaper Bild reckon that a deal to bring him to Old Trafford could be completed in July.

The Daily Star claim that United have made a second and improved offer of £28m for the Armenian, who managed an incredible 21 goals and 20 assists for Dortmund in all competitions last season.

Paul Pogba

While a deal for Mkhitaryan is allegedly close to getting done, coveted Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba remains the priority signing for Mourinho this summer, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Sources have told the newspaper that United have the cash to fund a world-record deal for the Frenchman, who left the Theatre of Dreams on a free in 2012, but could make a dramatic return.

Tahith Chong

From two of Europe’s biggest names to one you may not have heard of. The MEN expects 16-year-old Feyenoord striker Tahith Chong to join up with Nicky Butt’s academy side later this summer.

Chong has told the MEN that he has already visited Carrington, and spoken to three United players on social media, saying: “I’ve been there a few times and I am definitely impressed by the club.”

Matteo Darmian

That is the latest on potential arrivals, but what about possible departures? Tuttomercato claimed last week that Barcelona are keen on Matteo Darmian, who has not been given assurances over his future.

The Italian, who joined from Torino a year ago, is quoted by the MEN as saying: “Today I am a United player. I have a contract and I think I will continue next season. But I have not heard from Mourinho.”

Phil Jones

The England international was tipped for great things by Sir Alex Ferguson, but injuries and a lack of regular first-team football – he made only 13 appearances last season – have stalled his development.

A loan move could be just what the 24-year-old needs, and the Daily Mail reports that former United defender Steve Bruce at Hull City has made an enquiry about taking him for the 2016-17 campaign.
