Chelsea target hits back at fuss over smoking habit

Roma and Belgium midfielder Radja Nainggolan has hit back at critics after coach Marc Wilmots confirmed that he smokes.

The 28-year-old is currently on international duty at Euro 2016, but that hasn’t stopped on-going speculation surrounding his club future.

Antonio Conte is seemingly desperate to take him to Stamford Bridge, but so far, the Italian tactician has seen his advances rejected by Roma while the player has claimed that he’s happy in the Italian capital.

In turn, Chelsea may have to look elsewhere, although the focus has been on one of Nainggolan’s habits in the last 24 hours or so, and it obviously didn’t impress him.

“I confirm, Radja does smoke,” Wilmots told Sporza.be. “I think he’s the only player in the squad who does smoke.”

“If I had tried to ban him from smoking five or six cigarettes a day, I think he’d wreck his room! It’s his problem if he plays until he is 30 rather than 35.”

A poll held by Sporza.be revealed that 72 per cent of 11,000 voters didn’t particularly care what he did as it’s ‘his body’, and for his part, Nainggolan believes that it’s been blow out of proportion.

If he does end up moving to Chelsea though, it remains to be seen what kind of reaction he gets from Conte about his smoking habit.

“Tomorrow I drink a glass of wine and I’m an alcoholic … We must talk about the European Championship and football. And do not look for something stupid,” he wrote on Twitter as seen below.
