AC Milan target bid for Romelu Lukaku as part of ambitious £80m spending spree

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku is a wanted man this summer, and now according to reports in Italy, AC Milan also want to sign him.

The Rossoneri have already bolstered their attacking ranks this week with the signing of last season’s Serie B top goalscorer Gianluca Lapadula, but they are evidently just getting started.

With negotiations continuing and edging closer to completion over a takeover from a Chinese consortium, the Serie A giants are expected to be armed with significant transfer funds this summer.

According to Corriere dello Sport, as part of their plans to splash the cash, Lukaku has emerged on their transfer radar and they will look to make him their marquee signing of the summer market.

The Belgian international is currently on duty with his national team at Euro 2016, scoring twice against the Republic of Ireland in the group stage to help them advance to the last-16 of the tournament.

In turn, his focus will be on guiding them deeper into the competition in the next fortnight, but that won’t prevent speculation around his future continuing.

The 23-year-old scored 25 goals and provided seven assists in 46 appearances in all competitions last season, and has matured and developed into one of Europe’s leading marksman during his time at Goodison Park after initially struggling to make his mark at Chelsea.

Whether or not he would be keen on a move to the San Siro remains to be seen, but it will seemingly become more difficult for top players around Europe to turn down the chance to join Milan if they act on their ambitious plans for the future.

The Rossoneri have really struggled in recent years with a lack of consistent investment in the squad, but that could be about to change if President Silvio Berlusconi signs off on the takeover this summer.
