Ryan Giggs set for showdown talks with Jose Mourinho this week over Manchester United future

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs is reportedly set to sit down with Jose Mourinho this week and confirm that he is leaving the club.

The 42-year-old had been serving as an assistant manager for Louis van Gaal, but following the club’s decision to sack the Dutchman last month and bring in Mourinho, the Portuguese tactician has brought his own staff with him to Old Trafford.

In turn, Giggs is said to be uninterested in accepting a lesser role, which in turn could see talks with Mourinho this week result in confirmation that he is leaving the club after almost 30 years, as reported by The Sun.

The 42-year-old has been touted as a future United boss for some time, but he may well now be forced to consider his options outside of the club before taking up the top job.

While it will certainly be disappointing for many to see him leave, it is arguably the best move for his managerial career in order to allow him to gain experience and hone his coaching skills in a head role elsewhere before returning to Old Trafford.

Mourinho is believed to have wanted to keep Giggs on board with the youth team, but it’s unlikely to be enough to convince the Welshman.

As a result, by the end of next week, the club legend could very well be looking at vacancies around the country with a view of taking his first major step into a long-term management role.
