Sadio Mane signing leaves Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp thrilled

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed his delight over finally signing Sadio Mane after spending years tracking the former Southampton star.

The 24-year-old completed his move to Anfield on Tuesday and will now link up with his new teammates and coach for pre-season training next month.

However, this wasn’t the first time that Klopp had tried to sign the Senegalese star, and based on his comments following the official confirmation of the deal, he’s delighted to have landed his top target.

“I have followed Sadio for a lot of years since his impressive performances in the Olympics in 2012, and then watched his development in Austria and in his time at Southampton,” he told the club’s official website.

“Since I came here I have spoken to the staff a lot about him and have always felt he could be a very good signing for us. He has a lot of quality, works hard and has a very good goal scoring record.

“When I spoke to him I could tell that he was passionate about joining the club and playing for our fantastic fans. I think they will be just as excited about seeing him put on a Liverpool shirt as I am.

“It is great that we have managed to sign him so he can work with us from the first day of pre-season.”

Mane scored 15 goals and provided nine assists in 43 appearances for the Saints last year, playing an instrumental role in their sixth-place finish in the Premier League under former boss Ronaldo Koeman.

However, he will now look ahead to forming a part of Klopp’s exciting plans on Merseyside, with the former Dortmund boss making the 24-year-old his fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Joel Matip, Marko Grujic and Loris Karius.

In turn, with more new faces likely to arrive between now and the start of next season, it promises to be an exciting time for Liverpool fans with Klopp preparing for his first full campaign in charge.
