Serie A giants target Dimitri Payet after £200m cash injection

After confirmation of the Suning Group’s arrival in a press conference on Tuesday, Inter are set for a busy summer of spending with Roberto Mancini handed a £200m war chest.

The new Chinese owners have taken a 68.55 per cent stake in the Nerazzurri, with President Erick Thohir continuing with a share while Massimo Moratti has a position as honorary President.

In turn, the latter has had his say on who the Italian giants should target this summer with their new found transfer funds, and he has been left impressed with Dimitri Payet.

“As a fan, I would love to see Payet in an Inter shirt,” he told reporters. “However, the great champions are currently elusive, you have to be lucky enough to find the right opportunity.

“We are missing 2-3 players to be competitive. The important thing is to have solid players that ensure continuity.

“My feeling is good for the new group, it seems to me that with [Erick] Thohir there are positives. We have to work a lot and we will have some satisfaction.”

Payet has been a revelation for West Ham United since arriving last summer, inspiring the Hammers to a seventh-placed finish in the Premier League last season having contributed 12 goals and 15 assists in 38 appearances in all competitions.

The 29-year-old has continued that form at Euro 2016 as he has played a crucial role in France’s progression to the quarter-finals, and so his focus for now will be on Les Bleus rather than his club future.

Naturally, West Ham are unlikely to want to lose the Frenchman this summer and will try their best to hold on to him. However, with possible offers such as that coming in from Inter and the opportunity that they represent for Payet on a bigger stage, it remains to be seen whether or not he is persuaded to start a new challenge.
