Turkish giants deny that former BPL Golden Boot winner is being sold

Robin van Persie may not be making his return to the Premier League as soon as suspected if a recent statement by his current club Fenerbahce is any indication.

According to Squawka News, Fenerbahce have released a statement that Van Persie is not for sale despite recent rumors to the contrary and called the aforementioned rumors ‘outright lies’.

“A number of websites write that the agent of Van Persie is in Istanbul to discuss the termination of the cooperation.

“These claims are pure lies. His agent is not in Istanbul, and also no talks are entered into. So the rumours are wrong.”

Fenerbahce club president Azil Yildirim previously said that there were no offers currently on the table for Robin van Persie.

“Van Persie? We’re waiting for buyers, if he wants to be sold,” Yildirim told the Evening Standard.

Van Persie won the Premier League Golden Boot with Arsenal in 2012 and with Manchester United in 2013, totaling 56 league goals in that two-year span

The Dutch striker was sold to Fenerbahce in the summer of 2015 on a three-year deal and went on to score 14 goals in the Turkish Super Lig.

Over the last ten seasons between Arsenal, Man United and Fenerbahce, Van Persie has scored double-digit goals eight times.
