Chelsea transfer news: Antonio Conte wants Italy star to join him at Stamford Bridge

New Chelsea boss Antonio Conte wants to bring Southampton star Graziano Pelle with him to Chelsea according to the Sky Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio.

The report states that Pelle was a key member of Conte’s Italy side which impressed during Euro 2016 and that the former Juventus manager wants sign him for the Blues. The report goes onto state that Chelsea are set to face competition from Everton for Pelle’s signature.

Conte’s side completed the signing of the Belgium attacker Michy Batshuayi from Marseille over the weekend.

Pelle scored two goals in four appearances for Italy during Euro 2016, although the 30-year-old striker missed a penalty during the shootout on Saturday night’s quarter-final clash between Italy and Germany.

Italy were eliminated from the competition while Germany progressed to the semi-finals where they will take on the hosts France.

Pelle apologised for his penalty miss after the game.

He was quoted by Football Italia as saying: “I am sorry to everyone, but let nobody say I was trying to provoke Neuer. I don’t even think he noticed. By making the ‘chip’ gesture I was merely trying to encourage him to stay in the centre of the goal.”

The former Feyenoord striker scored 14 goals and provided seven assists in 36 appearances for Southampton in all competitions this season.
