Liverpool midfielder interested in Turkish escape

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva could be on his way out this summer and Besiktas are keen to snap him up, according to Turkish sports newspaper Fanatik.

The report claims that Leiva is open to the move and that Besiktas have held talks with his agent regarding a summer transfer.

Leiva did recently reveal that his future at Liverpool could be in doubt and that he does not know what plans Jurgen Klopp has for him – if any – next season.

“There have been some changes last season, with the coaching change,” Leiva said, speaking to Radio Joven Pan, as reported by the Daily Post.

“I still do not know exactly what will be my role within the group, but I am returning (to England) on Thursday to start the pre-season.

“It is the first transfer window in which Klopp will participate more actively in Liverpool, so I’ll just get a better idea when I return.”

Besiktas have been closely linked with Leiva for the past season and had a loan bid rejected last summer according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Black Eagles would be able to offer Leiva Champions League football this time around and the promise of a spot in the first-team.

The Brazilian international made a total of 40 appearances in all competitions last season and still has another year remaining on his Liverpool contract.
