Liverpool set for transfer disappointment as top target closing in on Serie A switch

Dinamo Zagreb starlet Marko Pjaca is reportedly closer to joining either Juventus or AC Milan rather than Liverpool this summer.

Conflicting reports are suggesting different scenarios for the 21-year-old, who has impressed a number of top European clubs with his form for club and country.

Pjaca was part of the Croatia squad at Euro 2016 this summer, and with the tournament concluding next weekend and pre-season training swinging into action, he is set to speak with his agent and decide on his next move.

According to Sky Sport Italia, it’s down to a two-horse race for his signature, although Gianluca Di Marzio has insisted that Juventus currently have the edge over Milan.

That isn’t a particularly great surprise given the dominant position that the Bianconeri are currently in domestically, as they will target a sixth consecutive Serie A title next season with one of the strongest squads in Europe at the disposal of Massimiliano Allegri.

In turn, Pjaca could favour a move to Turin over a rebuild at the San Siro, with Vincenzo Montella set to meet with club officials on Monday to discuss transfer targets.

Nevertheless, it looks as though Jurgen Klopp will have to consider alternatives in the coming weeks, with the Reds boss still looking to strengthen his squad where possible.

The German tactician has already brought in the likes of Joel Matip and Sadio Mane, but he will be keen to continue to bolster his options and add depth and quality to his group in order to ensure that Liverpool are competitive at the top of the Premier League table next season.
