Exclusive: Tottenham resist bid from Bundesliga giants for international defender

Tottenham have resisted a big money bid from Bundesliga giants VLF Wolfsburg for Kevin Wimmer as they look to keep hold of the Austria international.

Stars & Friend – Wimmer’s management company – agent Mihat Halis has revealed to Caught Offside’s Eren Sarigul that Wolfsburg tabled a substantial offer for the Austria international however, Spurs rejected the bid and Wimmer will remain at Tottenham next season.

The 23-year-old was signed by Mauricio Pochettino from Cologne last year and went onto make 10 Premier League appearances for Spurs. Wimmer was given an extended run in Tottenham’s starting line up following the injury to Jan Vertonghen.

Wimmer seems keen on staying in England and recently stated that the Premier League is more attractive to him than the Bundesliga.

“I still follow the Bundesliga, and Cologne especially. Which is better is a question I often get,” the Austria international was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

“The Premier League is the most attractive league in the world. The intensity in this league is amazing, much higher than in Germany. And, for me it’s more attractive to play in England.”

Tottenham ended the season in third place and will compete in the UEFA Champions League next season.
