Austrian international defender Sebastian Prodl will stay at Watford next season despite interest from rival Premier League club according to his agent.

Stars & Friends – Prodl’s management company – agent Mihat Halis told Emre Sarigul: “Prodl has received interest but he will be staying at Watford where he is happy.”

Watford signed Prodl on a free transfer from Werder Bremen last season and he still has another four-years remaining on his current contract.

The experienced defender scored twice in 24 appearances for Watford in all competitions last season putting on a strong showing towards the end of the league campaign.

Prodl made 21 Premier League appearances but missed a significant part of the season after picking up a calf injury towards the end of 2015.

The 29-year-old defender joined the Austria national team for the European Championships this summer starting against Portugal and playing 45 minutes against Iceland.

Watford changed manager over the summer appointing Walter Mazzarri as head coach but Prodl is expected to keep his place in the team.
