Chelsea set to hijack move for £28m Everton target

Chelsea are set to hijack Everton for £28 million target Axel Witsel according to the Sun.

Everton were in pole position to pull off the deal until Chelsea entered the race and moved into pole position.

The report claims that the Blues are now favourites to sign the Belgium international moving ahead of Everton, Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli in the race for Witsel.

Chelsea are reported to have agreed terms with Witsel’s agents but have yet to finalise a transfer fee with his club Zenit St Petersburg.

The Sun state that the 27-year-old joined Zenit on a £32 million move from Portuguese giants Benfica in 2012 but the Russian giants have been forced to accept a lower fee than they paid as he has just 12 months remaining on his current deal.

Witsel is expected to be on course for a pay rise if he does make a move to the London based outfit. The midfielder currently makes £80,000-a-week in Russia.
