New Man United signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan talks up friendship with club’s striker

Henrikh Mkhitaryan may have a rough transition to English football – as many players often do – but at least he’ll have a friend from his Borussia Dortmund days to keep him company.

According to the Express, Mkhitaryan spoke glowingly about the relationship he built with Man United striker Adnan Januzaj during their time together last year. Januzaj played for Dortmund briefly while on a loan spell from Man United.

“I was very close with Adnan,” Mkhitaryan said after signing with the team.

“He’s one of my friends and even before I came here I was always in touch with him and he was asking if I was going to join.

“I said ‘I don’t know’ but now I’m here and I will have him as a friend and helper.”

Januzaj failed to score a goal for the German giants during his brief time with the team, and recorded just one assist in six Bundesliga appearances.

Mkhitaryan, on the other hand, went on to lead the Bundesliga in assists with 15 as he helped lead the team to a second-place finish and back into the Champions League.

Between the presence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, Januzaj is unlikely to be featured prominently with the Red Devils this coming season.
