Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has praised France international star Antoine Griezmann for his performance in the 2-0 win over Germany in the Euro 2016 semi-final.

Henry revealed that he was emotional after the performance and that in his opinion Griezmann is the French national team’s new hero.

The former Arsenal man described Griezmann as being the kind of player France need to win major tournaments.

“I’m actually so emotional,” Henry was quoted as saying by the Evening Standard.

“The main man Antoine Griezmann, we all knew he had to play this kind of game. We again have a hero, a striker who can make us win tournaments.”

Griezmann scored the second goal against Germany which took his overall tally up to six making him the top goalscorer in the tournament.

Henry also revealed that he thought France deserved to knock Germany out and book a place in the Euro 2016 final

“This is for the players, who deserve it. We played the best team in the world and we knocked them out. Yes, we suffered, but we never gave up,” he said.

“I always trusted my players. This is their reward, their victory.”

France will take on Portugal next in the final. The Portuguese national team beat Wales 2-0 in their semi-final game.

Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo is currently the joint second highest scorer in the tournament having found the back of the net three times alongside Payet, Giroud and Bale.
