Germany were eliminated from the European Championships after after being defeated 2-0 by hosts France in Marseille on Thursday evening.

Liverpool’s Emre Can did get his first start for Germany and it was not in defence as he has often been used by head coach Joachim Low but in midfield where he has played for his club all season.

The 22-year-old actually made his first appearance of Euro 2016 yesterday. Can was called upon as Germany were missing key players including Sami Khedira and Matt Hummels.

The Germany international was however, unable to prevent his side crashing out of the tournament. Unfortunately for Can the German national side lost their first game of Euro 2016 in the only game he featured in.

Antoine Griezmann ended up being the hero on the night scoring a brace to book France a place in the final while taking his overall goal tally to six making him the top scorer in Euro 2016.
