Man City readying £51m to beat Chelsea and secure Italian superstar

As Italy’s strong defensive form in Euro 2016 brought them to the Quarter-Finals, star defender Leonardo Bonucci attracted more and more attention from clubs seeking to pry him from Juventus. Now it looks as though Manchester City are about to make a massive bid to bring him to the Etihad.

According to the Metro, Man City are prepared to offer up to £51 million to secure the services of Bonucci from Juventus. The Citizens had previously submitted a bid for an estimated £38 million in an effort to compete with Chelsea.

Per the source, Bonucci’s agent flew to Manchester on Thursday to discuss a possible deal – even though Chelsea have been tipped as the favorite to sign the 29-year-old Italian.

Manchester City had an expensive but somewhat inefficient group of starting center backs last year. Injuries hampered superstar Vincent Kompany, while overall poor play came from Eliaquim Mangala.

Bonucci has won five straight Serie A titles with Juventus and earned Serie A Team of the Year honors in 2015 after claiming Serie A, Coppa Italia and Supercup titles.
