Arsenal enter race for unsettled Barcelona ace but face stiff competition

Arsenal are reportedly one of the clubs interested in signing Barcelona star Arda Turan this summer, according to reports in Spain.

The Turkish international has failed to have the desired impact at the Nou Camp since his arrival from Atletico Madrid last year, making just 25 appearances in total.

In turn, the 29-year-old is already being linked with an exit, with Sport suggesting that Fenerbahce and Arsenal are amongst the clubs looking to snap him up.

Given his history and connection with Galatasaray, Fener’s bitter rivals, it would seem unlikely that that move would become a realistic option.

As a result, it could open up the path for Arsene Wenger to swoop and add the attacking ace to his squad as he continues to look for ways to strengthen his team.

Turan’s ability and experience would certainly be important additions to Arsenal, but ultimately, there will be doubts over whether or not Wenger would move to try and sign a 29-year-old given his history of looking for younger players that have room for development.

Meanwhile, Sport also suggest that Borussia Dortmund could act as further competition, with Thomas Tuchel also continuing his search for reinforcements this summer.

If Arsenal are serious about their interest in Turan, then they would be well advised to avoid waiting too long which in turn could allow one of their rivals an opportunity to steal a march on them.

Dortmund would certainly be an attractive proposition for Turan as he looks to get back to being an influential figure for his club and country, with his displays and importance to Atleti proving what he can offer at the highest level.
