Tottenham held two meetings with father of Germany ace during Euro 2016

According to reports in Germany, Tottenham Hotspur could be closer to the signing of Bayern Munich star Mario Gotze than many think.

The German international endured a difficult season in Bavaria last year, but that didn’t prevent him from being selected by Joachim Low in his Euro 2016 squad.

However, the world champions were unable to add the European crown to their collection, and having been eliminated from the tournament, focus has turned to the club futures of the players.

According to Bild, Spurs representatives have held two round of discussions with Jurgen Gotze, the player’s father, and the 24-year-old is expected to make a decision sooner rather than later.

Gotze’s current contract expires in 2017, and so the Bundesliga giants have a potentially difficult decision to make this summer if they wish to avoid losing him for nothing next year.

Bild go on to make an argument as to why the Bayern star would choose a move to White Hart Lane, noting that Mauricio Pochettino’s men finished in a respectable third place in the Premier League last season and will feature in the Champions League in the upcoming campaign.

However, they also note that Borussia Dortmund remain an option, and so perhaps a return to his former club is a more likely proposition for Gotze.

Regardless of what he chooses to do, it is becoming more evident that Pochettino is keen to add significant firepower to his squad this summer in order to lessen the burden on Harry Kane’s shoulders.

Spurs are said to be on the verge of completing a deal for AZ Alkmaar striker Vincent Janssen, as noted by The Daily Mail, and the reports from Germany suggest that that won’t be the last dealing they have in terms of strikers.

It remains to be seen whether or not Gotze is convinced by the project in north London, enough so to leave Bayern who offer him a great chance of winning further silverware next season under the watchful eye of Carlo Ancelotti.

If there isn’t a place in the starting line-up for him, then perhaps he will be forced into moving and Spurs are seemingly in an advanced spot to reach a deal.
