Mesut Ozil has heaped praise on the Real Madrid superstar and his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo was part of the Portugal national team which were crowned Euro 2016 champions yesterday evening. Fernando Santos’s side defied the odds to record a 1-0 win over the hosts with the winning goal coming from the former Swansea City striker Eder.
Ozil took to Twitter after the game to congratulate both Ronaldo and Pepe.
It looked like it wasn’t going to be Ronaldo’s night after the Real Madrid star was forced to come off after suffering a knee injury early in the first half.
Ozil was part of the Germany side which went out in the semi-finals. The 27-year-old ended the the tournament with one goal and one assist. Germany were eliminated by the hosts France by a 2-0 scoreline.
The 27-year-old is currently spending his summer break in Los Angeles and will join Arsenal’s pre-season training camp later this month. Ozil finished last season as the leading assist provider in the Premier League (19) and was name Arsenal player of the season.
