Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante is coming off a breakout season in the Premier League and an impressive showing at Euro 2016 for France. His great play has earned transfer looks from several top clubs, and the admiration of a Chelsea legend who wants to seem him with a big club next season.

In a recent interview [per Sun Sport], former Chelsea superstar Claude Makelele praised the skill and passion for the game that Kante displays – comparing the French star to himself during his own playing days – and expressed his hope that a big club with Champions League ambitions will pick him up.

“I enjoyed the way I had to play, this position made me happy,” Makelele said.

“My men, I wanted to make them happy, the players behind me happy – I didn’t need to score, the good things came after.

“This job is very difficult, but I loved it.

“I don’t want N’Golo Kante to be compared with me. Kante can be Kante.

“I want him to be more than me, but I love to watch him play because you can see in him the joy.

“I love the kind of player like that, who plays for the team.

“Sometimes you see a team with big players, but for me whenever a team is winning it is because of spirit.

“He arrived in a good way, now he wants to play in the Champions League. It’s another competition, another stress, just like the national team.

“He needs to get everything from every experience.

“He still has the same way of playing, the same happiness, but he needs to play in a big team.”

Chelsea are believed to be interested in Kante, who according to The Sun has a £20 million release clause in his contract. Real Madrid and Manchester United have also expressed interest in the 25-year-old midfielder.

Leicester City will be playing in the Champions League for the first time in their 130-plus year history due in large part to the contributions Kante made during their historic title-winning season.

This past season, after making a switch from Ligue 1 outfir Caen, Kante scored a goal and made five assists while commanding the central midfield. He earned PFA Team of the Year honors for his efforts and a starting role on the France national team.
