Chelsea transfer news: Brazilian signs long deal, UEFA Youth League star set for Championship move

Tuesday delivered two major pieces of Chelsea transfer news.

First was the official confirmation that Brazilian midfielder Willian has signed a new long-term deal at Stamford Bridge.

Willian, who scored five goals and provided six assists in 35 Premier League games last season, committed to four more years with the Blues, as reported by the club’s official website.

Willian has been a key figure for Chelsea since joining from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013.

The 27-year-old was the shining light in a poor 2015-16 campaign, winning the Chelsea Player of the Year award, as well as the Chelsea Players’ Player of the Year gong.

It could a case of one in, one out at SW6.

That’s because ESPN are reporting that 19-year-old Kasey Palmer is set to join Championship side Huddersfield Town on loan.

Midfielder Palmer has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Blues, but he has already won the FA Youth Cup twice, plus back-to-back UEFA Youth League titles.

In fact, Palmer was joint-ninth on the list of leading scorers in last season’s UEFA Youth League. His fifth goal was the winner in the final as Chelsea beat PSG 2-1 in Nyon.

Whether or not Palmer is ready for first-team football remains to be seen, but – based on his CV – he certainly seems worthy of Huddersfield’s time.

Huddersfield finished 19th in the Championship last season, 11 points clear of relegation and 23 short of the playoffs.
