Everton table £25.5m bid for Juventus defender

Everton have tabled an offer for Juventus’ young defender Daniele Rugani according to the Italian outlet Calcio Mercato (via Daily Star).

The report states that the Toffees made an offer of £25.5 million plus bonuses. However, Juventus are understood to be keen to keep hold of the Italy international defender.

The Daily Star go onto say that Everton’s newly appointed manager Ronald Koeman has made strengthening his defence a priority over the summer. The former Southampton manager’s job may be made more difficult with Everton’s star defender John Stones being linked with a move to Manchester City, according to the Daily Mail.

Rugani made a total of 17 appearances for Juventus last season and has struggled to break into the starting line-up with Leonardo Bonucci, Andrea Barzagli and Giorgio Chiellini all ahead of the 21-year-old in the pecking order.

The young defender joined Juventus from Empoli for £4.25 million back in February 2015. Everton ended last season in 11th place with 47 points in 38 games.
