Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed who he feels was Germany’s best player at Euro 2016.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the experinced manager stated that Mesut Ozil was Germany’s best player over the course of the European Championships.

Wenger’s selection may not come as much of a surprise considering Ozil is of course an Arsenal player. The Frenchman also stated that he was impressed with the young German defender Joshua Kimmich. The 21-year-old defender is currently a Bayern Munich player and has another five-years remaining on his current contract.

Speaking to the Turkish newspaper Sabah journalist Ömer Ürdünel Wenger said: “Mesut Özil was Germany’s best player but Joshua Kimmich impressed me the most he was fantastic.”

Ozil was named in the Opta team of the tournament for Euro 2016 – the only other Germany international player to make it was the Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos.

The 27-year-old scored one goal and provided one assist over the course of the tournament. Ozil played a key role in his national team reaching the semi-final where they lost against hosts France.
