Arsenal interested in top-class striker; contact made with agent of prolific South American

This is one for Arsenal fans to get excited about.

Sky Sports understands that the Gunners ARE interested in signing Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain.

The Gunners have yet to make an offer for the Argentina international hitman but Sky in Italia reports that “intermediaries” have been in contact with Higuain’s brother, who acts as his agent.

Sky Sports adds that the 28-year-old would cost Arsenal a club-record fee. According to BBC Sport, the most that the Gunners have ever paid for a player was £42.5m for Mesut Ozil in 2013.

There has long been a theory that the North Londoners are a striker short of a serious Premier League title challenge, and Higuain would provide them with the goals to make the difference.

The South American was the top scorer in Serie A last season with 36 goals, and averages a better than a goal every other game in his club career, across spells at Napoli, Real Madrid and River Plate.
